Fishing offshore the past week has produced a mixed bag and a large variety of pan to medium sized reef fish (as per photo above) with some bigger ones among them to top up the esky, mostly all round the1-3 kg mark most of these species include squiry snapper around the 2kg – 3kg mark, trag jew, some nice sized venus tusk fish, moses perch, grass sweet lip, small coral trout and some really good size perlies, mostly on the edges of the reefs and wire weed beds which are quite easy to anchor on in light winds but are no go when the northerlys kick in as dragging anchor is quite easy to do and damages the offshore reefs.
We have been mostly doing 1/2 and 3/4 days around the outside of North reef the coffies and Massos so we can be back home before the northerly’s kick in. Its been great to see the Juvenal red emperor stocks on the closer reefs including sunshine and north reef seem to be replenishing well as they seem to of coped a bit of hiding over the last 20 years but are making a come back with there numbers which is great for the biodiversity of the reefs. Also a few of the larger species including cobia, greasy cod, seem to be on the chew earlier in the morning then slow up a little bit until the next turn of the tide.
In saying that reef fishing charters in the month of November produce different fish on different days as the seasons transition. Fishing offshore reefs in the Noosa area if your into your pelagic fishing will start to fire up as of the next few weeks as the bait and current has already arrived. So deep sea fishing, offshore fishing and reef fishing around the offshore fishing grounds out of Noosa is a great area to target dolphin fish, Mackerel and cobia, which are all great if you love your fish and chips also the big pelagics such as marlin , sail fish and blue fin and yellow fin tuna will take any big fresh live or dead bait presented properly around the surface.
